my perfect day by Pamela

My perfect day took place on a lovely hot day in September. My sister Fiona and my husband Jonathan and I decided to go to the beach together. We made a delicious picnic to take with us. I still remember what we took! It was slices of roast beef, a chick pea salad with lots of roasted red peppers and cumin seeds. We also had a French baguette and some dark rye bread with a special type of cheese made in our region. For dessert we ate watermelon, peaches and blueberries and some lemon cheesecake.
The beach in our village is generally very quiet, but in summer it can get a bit crowded with tourists, many of whom return year after year. However, on this beautiful September day the beach was deserted except for the three of us and one man walking his dog way down the beach. We just chatted, read our books, ate when we were hungry and swam when we were hot. We also walked along the shore collecting sea shells and drift wood. My neighbour's children were using them to make a 'display' in their garden, so we wanted to help them out by contributing to their collection.
Later that evening we returned home and had a barbecue. We ate out on our deck and watched the gorgeous sunset over the water.
My parents and some other relatives were there, and we stayed up late enjoying each other's company and listening to amusing stories about my parent's life when they were young and didn't have electricity or running water!
That was a day I hope I never forget. I doubt I will!
